| Her (2013) |
Set in a not so
distant future; ‘Her’ is a film about a man struggling with his ability to
connect with people. So much so that he finds comfort in an Artificial
Intelligent Operating System self-named Samantha.
This film challenges your thoughts and ideas about what love is, and its
importance to people.
Samantha; is a computer, so there’s a heavy focus on the
lack of physical intimacy they share with each other; but thankfully it’s not
the primary focus behind their story, with most of the interesting issues and
conversation stemming from strong emotional feelings and a desire to not be
alone/apart from one and other.
I put off watching this film for months, I sat through the
trailer numerous times; read countless reviews in order to amp myself up to
watch it, but the overall feel and vibe of the movie seemed extremely
depressing and I had feelings that it could hit close to home.
I wasn’t wrong…
While it didn’t really hit close to home, it was beautifully
sad, monstrously depressing, and at times you will more than likely get uncomfortable
feelings and draw connections between the story and your own life, but that’s
what makes it so damn entertaining.
