Day 3: Meet the Feebles (1989)

Meet the Feebles (1989)

Meet the Feebles is another movie taken from the Peter Jackson archives. The premise of this film is taking the innocent children’s stage show and adding a gratuitous sex, violence and drug spin to it (behind the scenes of course). But here’s the catch, all the actors are puppets, not a single human person appears in the film (besides actors in suits).

The actual story is pretty blah, in fact the whole film is kind of meh, It’s just something you can watch when you really want to just not have to think about confusing twists and long monologues. It doesn’t hide what it is, and it’s fun. It’s just fun…

All the characters spin off the rails, taking drugs, having sex, killing, shooting pornos, dying in horrific ways. You name it, this movie has it.

Overall, not something I could watch again; but make me chuckle occasionally and I’m probably have nightmares for weeks.

Day 2: Bad Taste (1987)

Bad Taste (1987)

What do you get when you cross a group of dim-witted Kiwi researchers, a bunch of hungry out of this world human look-a-like extra-terrestrials hell bent on capturing Homo sapiens and turning them into the next big intergalactic fast food delicacy ANDDDDD an hour and a half of senseless violence?

You get Peter Jackson's ‘Bad Taste’ that’s what.

This film is insane, like completely mental. If you didn’t feel queasy or at least cringe 10 times during this film, then I pat you on the back. Personally I think the sight of someone mashing their expelled brainy mush back into their own cranium was enough for me.

The Effects are low budget, as at the time this was basically Jackson’s first film, but that in no way takes away from any of the charm. The story feels like something they thought up in the backyard on a weekend, and at times it could swear they were just making things up as they went.

Not much more to say about this one, it’s a fun movie to just kick back with friends and watch (preferably not sober).

Day 1: Her (2013)

Her (2013)

Set in a not so distant future; ‘Her’ is a film about a man struggling with his ability to connect with people. So much so that he finds comfort in an Artificial Intelligent Operating System self-named Samantha. This film challenges your thoughts and ideas about what love is, and its importance to people.

Samantha; is a computer, so there’s a heavy focus on the lack of physical intimacy they share with each other; but thankfully it’s not the primary focus behind their story, with most of the interesting issues and conversation stemming from strong emotional feelings and a desire to not be alone/apart from one and other.
I put off watching this film for months, I sat through the trailer numerous times; read countless reviews in order to amp myself up to watch it, but the overall feel and vibe of the movie seemed extremely depressing and I had feelings that it could hit close to home.

I wasn’t wrong…

While it didn’t really hit close to home, it was beautifully sad, monstrously depressing, and at times you will more than likely get uncomfortable feelings and draw connections between the story and your own life, but that’s what makes it so damn entertaining.
